Antietam

A short distance away from our new home is Antietam, Maryland. It is known for being the bloodiest one-day battle of the American Civil War.

This is Dunker Church which was one focal point in attacks during the battle. It was interesting that the battle took place in and around a small town where property and people were damaged and killed. I guess I always envisioned battles to take place in desolate back country.

The battle to capture Burnside bridge

It was my first Civil War experience and was very interesting to explore and understand more about the war. It was a cold day but we had a lot of fun.

On the way to Antietam we passed this house.... doesn't look like much until you zoom in.......

.......Yep, a creepy coffin just sitting under their tree in the front lawn..... EEK!
