A weekend getaway

Dale finished up his last training trip on November 20th and then was going to head out to Washington, D.C. and be based out on the East Coast on the 23rd.  So we decided to take a trip to the coast, for what we figured was going to be one last time.  So Friday we headed over to Pfeiffer Beach, which is famous for its purple sand.  After a few hours in the car, William was more than excited to get out and run around.  It was a great day and there were plenty of birds for him to chase.  Unfortunately for him, his parents did not come prepared for him to play at the beach and so we had to strip him down to his underpants (yes we were that family).  

Then later that day we continued down the coast and saw a cool waterfall that I had seen on the internet.  It was on a web page about places in the United States that looked like the coast of Greece.  This waterfall is fresh water and it falls straight into the Pacific Ocean.  There was a hike about a half mile in from the road and the whole path was about 6 feet wide with this weak sauce wooden fence that protected from a straight drop off a cliff into the ocean.  Needless to say we did not let William stray too far.

Then we got back in the car and headed down to a hotel we had got for the night that was right on the coast.  We woke up the next morning and walked along the beach by our hotel and then got in the car and decided to drive to a beach close by that we had heard a lot about called Pismo Beach.  On our way to the beach, we just so happened to drive by a fire station that was having an open house.  Of course we couldn't pass that up for William...and for Dad.  They had a hose hooked up so the kids could put out "fires".  And then they had a camping trailer that they pumped fake smoke in and then taught the kids how to "stop, drop, and roll".  William had a great time!  Then we headed to the beach and had a great time throwing rocks into the water, chasing birds, and running from the waves.  The beach is so much fun!  After, we headed to this pumpkin patch that I had heard about from a lady when we first moved here.  It took us two years to get here and it was fun.  We walked around and looked at all the cool local produce and food that they had.  We got lunch and William had fun climbing on the tractors and picture boards.  

When we got home, it had been a great trip.  We feel so lucky to have lived in California for the last couple of years.  We have had such a great time and will miss quite a bit about it.
