Gettysburg

Gettysburg was tops on our list of places we wanted to visit as soon as we moved out here.  February was a slow month for us.  It was freezing cold almost every single day so we couldn't do anything out in our yard or go to a park.  Also, Dale was only used sparingly.  So even though we wanted to save this visit for a time where the weather would be more pleasant, we couldn't take the four walls of our house much more and decided to give it a try in mid-February when the high was only supposed to be in the teens.  On our way home, we hit a snow storm and got to our house just as it started sticking to the surfaces.

They have a great visitors center that is only about 10 years old.  The tour guide called it the Wal Mart of visitors centers because it offered a little bit of everything.  Dale didn't particularly care for that analogy.  Hehe.

In town there is a private liberal arts college that served as an infirmary during the battle.

Each state has since dedicated numerous statues to those of their sons who fought in the battle. This is Virginia's statue.

On top of an overlook.  I believe this particular one looked over Dwight D Eisenhower's farm that he purchased near the battlefield.  He was particularly interested in the strategy of the battle.

This kid is up for anything, anytime, anywhere.  It makes parenting easy.

This is the statue from the state of Pennsylvania to its sons.  It was by far the largest of all the tributes. It was neat because there was a tiny spiral staircase that you could climb to the top and walk around to see a nice view of the battlefields.
