This was a place we have heard a lot about since we moved here. It is even within our stake boundaries and there is a ward here. It is real close to our house, maybe a 40 minute drive. The town itself sits down on a peninsula which is formed by two rivers (Shenandoah and Potomac) that come together on the West Virginia/Virginia border. The reason it is so popular is it was a battle field during the Civil War. But also, it is everything that you would want in a scenic city: quaint tiny streets, cliffs with views that take your breath away, a rail line that cuts right through town, history, etc.
This city turned out to be heaven for William. Lots of space to run around and most of all, the trains.
This church sits on the top of a plateau that overlooks the town and the two rivers.
This is a bridge that is actually part of the Appalachian Trail. It crosses the Potomac. If you follow that river another 50-60 miles, it will take you right into downtown Washington, D.C.
We were actually lucky enough to have a train pass us while we were walking along this bridge.
This tunnel is iconic, I guess.
Many rocks and sticks were thrown off this bridge into the river below.
It was a great little town. Almost made me wish we had chose to live here. Anyone who comes to visit, we would love to take you back!
